
A chipper for contracting needs to handle not only stemwood but also branches, brushwood and uneven material. It should make efficient use of tractor power and perform reliably even on demanding worksites. Disc chippers are an efficient choice for stemwood
The strengths of a disc chipper are particularly evident when chipping stemwood. In a 2024 Skogforsk study on chipper productivity and fuel consumption, disc chippers were, on average, more productive and more fuel- and energy-efficient than drum chippers and hammer mills when processing stemwood at the same engine power.
In a disc chipper, the same heavy-duty disc cuts the wood and also helps discharge the chips. This allows the available power to be used efficiently for chipping.
At its best, the HJ550 can produce more than 100 cubic metres of chips per hour. The maximum diameter of the wood being fed into the chipper is 50 centimetres.
HJ550 handles different types of wood efficiently
The material processed on a worksite is rarely uniform. In addition to stemwood, the HJ550 is designed to smoothly handle branches, brushwood and uneven wood material. The design of the feeding system helps draw even more difficult material into the chipper.
Consistent feeding makes efficient use of tractor power
The No-Stress system adjusts the feeding speed according to the chipper load. When the load increases, the feeding speed is automatically reduced. When the load decreases, feeding continues normally.
Consistent loading keeps the chipping process running smoothly and protects the tractor from sudden load peaks. The operator also does not need to continuously adjust the feeding speed manually.
Excellent off-road capability
Not all wood to be chipped is waiting at a terminal or by the roadside. On forest sites and uneven terrain, the chipper needs to remain stable and follow the tractor reliably.
The HJ550’s sprung bogie and braked two-beam frame are designed for demanding conditions. Its off-road design makes it possible to work in locations that may not be accessible with a large truck-mounted chipper.
